Stonehenge may be the grandfather of sites that mix true and fascinating history, classic tourism and of course, over the top outlandish theories. Today it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site so it’s legit. Say what you want but it was on the bucket list of more than one in our party. Since we had a motor coach arranged for our large group from London to Southampton Cruise Terminal, we figured “how can you not stop by Stonehenge?” Some of us had visited more than 20 years ago and-while the rocks have remained unchanged- the infrastructure around visiting them has expanded. After boarding the shuttle from the visitor center we tried not to let the “classic” England weather dampen our enthusiasm. We got as close as allowed, walked the full perimeter and made the experience an efficient one. The gift shop and cafe had some cool and surprising choices. True local food dishes like sausage rolls and pastries are available if English countryside cuisine is also on your bucket list. After that it was back on our coach and onto Southampton to meet the ship! While Stonehenge is a bit of haul from London, making a quick visit on the way to Southampton is a very efficient use of your valuable vacation time. Shout out to Graham from Black Cab Heritage Tours (https://www.blackcabheritagetours.co.uk/) who was a great tour guide and made the work of transporting 24 people and about a million bags seamless and fun.
