Iceland 🇮🇸 2023 Golden Circle Spotlight: Þingvellir National Park, strolling between 2 continents.

Þingvellir (Thingvellir) National Park in Iceland is not only beautiful and visually interesting, but is also the site of important historic and ongoing geographic activities.

Half of Iceland is located on the North American tectonic plate and the other half, on the opposite side of the Mid-Atlantic Rift, is located on the Eurasian tectonic plate. A visit to Þingvellir allows you to walk along the rift valley with one continent to your right and another to your left. These plates are still slowly drifting apart. Þingvellir translates to 'field of parliament' and was the site of government going back to 874 AD. Today Þingvellir is the site of the official summer home of Iceland's Prime Minister, which you can see in our photo collage.
