Blue Lagoon: A blue jewel atop the Golden Circle.

After a full day spent exploring Iceland's Golden Circle with stops at Gullfoss, Kerið, Þingvellir and Strokkur Geysir plus lunch, ice cream and Icelandic horses we were ready to relax. I can't think of a more perfect way to achieve this goal than a visit to Blue Lagoon Iceland! ( www.bluelagoon.com )

Bathing in the surprisingly blue waters not only relaxed us but filled us with joy! The color of the warm water results from light reflecting off the silica dissolved in the lagoon's waters. A light steam coming off the water paired with the beautiful blue gave off otherworldly vibes.

Upon arrival we received wrist bands that were used to open and close lockers and to make any purchases. No need to worry about your wallet while enjoying the waters. Private showers with high quality bodywash, shampoo and conditioner are provided to clean off before jumping in. Many of us left the conditioner in our hair and put our hair up while swimming.

Our package included 2 drinks per person. Smoothies are available for kids and teetotalers. If you'd like to purchase additional drinks, just scan your band. It was fun to swim up to the bar and enjoy sipping a beverage while soaking up beautiful views in every direction.

Included in admission is a silica mask made at the lagoon. Simply swim up to the mask hut for a dollop of the smooth white mask. We all had fun applying the mask and all agreed that we had great looking skin the following day. I ended up ordering some once we returned home but of course you can purchase it during your visit.

When your time in the lagoon is over, you'll be provided with a towel so no need to pack your own. Upon checkout, simply scan and return your wristband at an automated kiosk. Here you will pay for any additional purchases you made.

We arrived in the early evening and enjoyed the sunshine thanks to the long Icelandic summer day. While we certainly were not the only people there, we did not feel like it was too crowded during our visit.

We arrived back to the Disney Dream at 930pm happy but ravenous. Although our dinner was scheduled for 830pm, our main dining room team graciously accommodated our party of 24 in true DCL style.

Our party ranged in age from 2 to 78. Everyone, including our teens, had a wonderful time. I highly recommend a visit to Blue Lagoon if you find yourself in Reykjavik.
